Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 205, pseudogene (RN7SL205P) is a pseudogene in the human genome corresponding to the 7SL RNA gene, which encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP)[5][6][7]. The SRP complex is central to targeting secretory and membrane proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotic cells, but RN7SL205P itself does not encode a functional product—as a pseudogene, it is a non-functional genomic remnant of a once-active gene[5][6][7]. Human DNA contains hundreds of 7SL RNA pseudogenes, which are typically truncated, not transcribed, and have no direct functional protein product[5][6]. There is no evidence that RN7SL205P or related 7SL pseudogenes serve as drug targets, nor are they involved as biomarkers, or possess known disease associations or therapeutic utility[6][7]. While other pseudogenes can sometimes play a role in gene regulation as competing endogenous RNAs or by modulating microRNA binding, no such function is currently established for RN7SL205P[4][5][6].
