Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 244, pseudogene (RN7SL244P) is a processed pseudogene that is homologous to the functional 7SL RNA gene. The 7SL RNA encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), which is involved in targeting proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotic cells[1][3]. Unlike the canonical 7SL RNA genes, RN7SL244P does not produce a functional RNA and is not known to play a direct role in cellular physiology. Many such pseudogenes arise from reverse transcription events and are scattered throughout the genome, often truncated and non-functional[5]. While some pseudogenes can influence cell biology by acting as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) or altering parental gene regulation, there is no published evidence that RN7SL244P possesses these roles[4]. RN7SL244P is therefore considered a non-functional genomic element with no direct relevance as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or drug-interaction molecule.

Biological functions

No direct biological function; it is a pseudogene and not a protein-coding or functional RNA
03

Disease associations

No direct implication; pseudogenes in general may act as microRNA decoys or regulate parental gene expression in some cases, but no specific disease link for RN7SL244P is established
