Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 285, pseudogene (RN7SL285P) is a pseudogene derived from the human 7SL RNA, which is the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP)[1][5]. The 7SL RNA itself is part of a ribonucleoprotein complex essential for co-translational targeting of secretory and membrane proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum[3]. However, RN7SL285P is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it is a genomic DNA sequence resembling a functional gene (in this case, the 7SL RNA gene) but is not expressed as a functional RNA product[1][5]. The majority of 7SL RNA-like sequences in the human genome are pseudogenes, likely resulting from the reverse transcription and integration of 7SL RNA transcripts back into the genome[1][5]. Pseudogenes such as RN7SL285P are generally considered non-functional, although some exceptions exist where pseudogene-derived transcripts may play regulatory roles. There is no evidence that RN7SL285P has a biological function, therapeutic relevance, or disease association.
