RN7SL302P is a pseudogene derived from the 7SL RNA gene family. Pseudogenes are defective gene copies generated during genome evolution, lacking the ability to encode a functional product[2][1][6]. The 7SL RNA itself is an essential part of the signal recognition particle (SRP), which mediates cotranslational protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum; however, pseudogenes like RN7SL302P are typically non-functional genomic remnants. Several hundreds of 7SL RNA-like sequences exist in the human genome, with most representing pseudogenes that have arisen from reverse transcription and insertion back into the genome[1][6]. RN7SL302P is one of these, and its locus is not transcribed at detectible levels nor known to play any biological role[1][6][2]. RN7SL302P is a genomic pseudogene, not a functional therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or biomarker. Its only established relevance is as a genomic artifact from evolutionary history of RNA processing and retrotransposition[1][6][2].
