Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 387, pseudogene (RN7SL387P) is a human pseudogene related to the 7SL RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP). The 7SL RNA is a functional non-coding RNA involved as a structural component in the SRP complex, which regulates co-translational targeting of secretory proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum. In contrast, RN7SL387P is a pseudogene: a non-functional, genetically inactive copy of the 7SL RNA gene that has been inserted into the human genome, likely via reverse transcription of 7SL RNA followed by integration[1][3][7][6]. Pseudogenes such as RN7SL387P are not translated into functional RNAs or proteins and are not considered therapeutic targets, receptors, enzymes, or drug targets[6]. They may, however, rarely impact gene regulation through noncoding RNA effects or be studied for evolutionary insights, but RN7SL387P itself does not have established biological functions, disease associations, or relevance as a biomarker or drug target[2][4][6]. There is no evidence that RN7SL387P is implicated in disease, or that it serves as a receptor, enzyme, or any type of canonical molecular drug target. The presence of "pseudogene" in the name designates its non-functional status. A genetically inactive, noncoding RNA pseudogene related to the 7SL RNA, present in the genome without known functional or therapeutic significance[1][3][6].
