Overview

RN7SL388P is a human pseudogene that resembles the RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic (7SL RNA) gene, which encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), a ribonucleoprotein involved in targeting secretory proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum. Like other pseudogenes, RN7SL388P is classified as a non-functional DNA sequence similar to a functional gene but incapable of producing a functional RNA or protein product due to mutations, truncations, or other disabling features. There is no evidence that RN7SL388P plays a biological or pathological role, nor is it targeted by any drugs or implicated in disease processes. Pseudogenes like RN7SL388P are common in the human genome and can sometimes interfere with genetic analyses but are generally considered non-functional. The pseudogene does not encode a functional RNA or protein and is not a drug target. The functional 7SL RNA gene (e.g., RN7SL1) is biologically important, but RN7SL388P is just one of many non-functional copies or fragments derived from it. There are no drugs, biomarkers, or disease associations specifically linked to RN7SL388P.
