Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 397, pseudogene (RN7SL397P) is a human pseudogene located on chromosome 3[4]. It belongs to a large family of non-coding RNA genes and pseudogenes related to the 7SL RNA, which forms the backbone of the signal recognition particle (SRP) involved in co-translational protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum[3][5][6]. However, as a pseudogene, RN7SL397P is considered a non-functional, non-coding segment of DNA that resembles the functional 7SL RNA gene but is typically not expressed to produce a functional RNA molecule[6]. The vast majority of 7SL-related loci in the human genome are such pseudogenes created by retrotransposition events and do not have established biological, therapeutic, or disease-linked functions[6]. There is no evidence that RN7SL397P or similar 7SL pseudogenes produce functional RNA or protein, nor are they known to be drug targets or biomarkers.
