Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 41, pseudogene (RN7SL41P) is classified as a pseudogene of the 7SL RNA, which is the essential RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) complex involved in the co-translational targeting of secretory and membrane proteins[1][6]. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences that resemble functional genes but are generally thought to have lost their protein-coding ability due to mutations; however, some pseudogenes can produce regulatory RNAs or otherwise acquire novel functions[4]. RN7SL41P is one of many 7SL RNA pseudogenes dispersed in the human genome, resulting from reverse transcription and genomic insertion of 7SL RNA transcripts. Unlike the functional 7SL RNA genes, there is currently no evidence that RN7SL41P is transcribed or plays a functional role in cellular processes; it is considered a genetic fossil with no known direct involvement in signal recognition, protein targeting, or other biological functions associated with its parent gene[1][6]. Its classification as a pseudogene means it is not considered a therapeutic target, and there is no information linking it to diseases, drug interactions, or mechanisms of action[1][6].
