Target intelligence / Profile preview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 413, pseudogene (RN7SL413P)

Target
RN7SL413P
Molecular classification
Other, Pseudogene, non-coding RNA pseudogene
01

Overview

RN7SL413P is a human pseudogene locus derived from the 7SL RNA component of the signal recognition particle; it is a non-coding sequence that does not produce a functional RNA or protein but may be transcribed at low levels. Pseudogenes like RN7SL413P are generally considered genomic "fossils" of genes and do not encode active products. In some cases, pseudogenes may regulate the expression of their parent genes through non-coding RNA mechanisms, but there is currently no validated biological function or disease association for RN7SL413P specifically. The authentic 7SL RNA gene encodes a functional RNA essential for SRP-mediated protein targeting, but RN7SL413P represents a truncated and nonfunctional copy.

Biological functions

May have regulatory roles as non-coding RNA, influencing parental gene expression via ceRNA (competing endogenous RNA) mechanisms in some contextsPossible involvement in epigenetic regulation, e.g. through generation of small RNAs that may affect histone modification

Disease associations

Other (Indirect regulatory roles in gene expression have been suggested for pseudogenes at large, including cancer, but there is no direct evidence for this locus)
