Overview

RN7SL423P is a **processed pseudogene** derived from the 7SL RNA gene, which encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) complex[1][3][5][9]. The functional 7SL RNA is essential for targeting secretory proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum, but RN7SL423P is a truncated, non-coding DNA sequence with high similarity to 7SL RNA, generated through retrotransposition[3][5]. Like other pseudogenes, RN7SL423P is presumed non-functional and is not known to be translated or to participate in SRP function. Some studies on pseudogenes suggest generic regulatory roles (as miRNA decoys or in chromatin modulation), but such roles have not been specifically demonstrated for RN7SL423P[4][6][8].
