Overview

RN7SL459P is a pseudogene representing a non-functional copy of the 7SL RNA gene, which is normally a component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) essential for targeting proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotes. Unlike functional 7SL RNA, RN7SL459P is not transcribed into a meaningful product and does not contribute to signal recognition particle activity. Hundreds of similar 7SL RNA pseudogenes exist in the human genome, often as truncated or mutated sequences derived from retrotransposition events. Pseudogenes such as RN7SL459P typically have no clearly defined biological or pathological roles and are not considered therapeutic targets. 7SL RNA is part of the signal recognition particle needed for co-translational protein targeting to membranes, but RN7SL459P is a nonfunctional, degenerate ("dead") copy. Pseudogenes are segments of DNA that resemble functional genes but are incapable of producing functional gene products due to disabling mutations, truncations, or absence of regulatory elements. RN7SL pseudogenes, including RN7SL459P, do not have clinical, biological or therapeutic significance as targets. There is no evidence that RN7SL459P serves any biomarker, toxicity, or disease-association role.
