While the functional 7SL RNA is essential for directing secretory and membrane protein synthesis through the SRP pathway, RN7SL477P itself is a truncated, non-functional DNA segment embedded in the genome as a result of reverse genetic flow—essentially a molecular relic rather than an active gene. It does not encode a protein, is not expressed, and has no recognized biological or disease role; its inclusion in genomic databases serves primarily as a record of genetic history[1][5][6][7]. Although some pseudogenes can regulate gene expression or act as miRNA decoys, there is no evidence to suggest that RN7SL477P has such functions[4][8].
