The 7SL RNA is the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), a ribonucleoprotein complex involved in targeting proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum during translation[3][5]. However, RN7SL483P does not encode a functional RNA; it is classified as a processed pseudogene, meaning it represents a nonfunctional copy of the ancestral 7SL RNA gene[1][7]. These types of pseudogenes are generally thought to arise from reverse-transcribed RNAs that reintegrate into the genome, lacking normal gene regulatory features and coding potential[4][7]. There is no evidence that RN7SL483P itself has a biological role, acts as a therapeutic target, or is involved in disease[1][6][7]. Some other RNA pseudogenes can play regulatory roles through acting as miRNA decoys or modulating parental gene expression, but no such function is described for RN7SL483P specifically[4].
