Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 498, pseudogene (RN7SL498P) is a human pseudogene corresponding to the 7SL RNA gene family. The 7SL RNA is a structural noncoding RNA essential for the signal recognition particle (SRP), a ribonucleoprotein complex critical for targeting secretory proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum[3][5][7]. However, RN7SL498P is a pseudogene and is classified as a nonfunctional genomic sequence that resembles the functional 7SL RNA gene but lacks the ability to produce a functional RNA product[1][9][10][8]. It neither codes for protein nor participates in SRP function. Most such 7SL-like pseudogenes are transcribed poorly, if at all[7], and do not serve as direct therapeutic targets, receptors, or enzymes. While some pseudogenes have been shown to play regulatory roles via competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) activity or generation of small interfering RNAs in other contexts[4][6], no evidence indicates such functions for RN7SL498P. Therefore, it is not considered a drug target or functional biomarker in current biomedical research.

Biological functions

No known biological function (functional 7SL RNA acts in signal recognition particle assembly and protein targeting, but RN7SL498P is a pseudogene and is presumed nonfunctional)[1][9][10][8]
03

Disease associations

Other (some pseudogenes have regulatory effects in cancer and other diseases through RNA interactions, but no evidence specific to RN7SL498P)[4][6][8]
