RN7SL499P is a human pseudogene derived from the 7SL RNA gene that normally encodes the RNA component of the cytoplasmic signal recognition particle (SRP)[1][5][6]. The majority of so-called "7SL pseudogenes" result from reverse transcription of 7SL RNA and subsequent integration into the genome, typically as truncated, non-functional sequences[5][6]. Only a few 7SL RNA sequences in the genome are capable of producing functional 7SL RNA; the rest, like RN7SL499P, are inactive pseudogenes[5][6]. Pseudogene transcription can sometimes regulate expression of related genes through RNA-mediated effects, but there is no evidence that RN7SL499P itself has such functions in human cells[4][5][6].
