Target intelligence / Profile preview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 523, pseudogene (RN7SL523P)

Target
RN7SL523P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding RNA
01

Overview

RN7SL523P is a human pseudogene whose sequence is derived from the 7SL RNA, a noncoding RNA that serves as the scaffold for the signal recognition particle (SRP). The SRP, containing 7SL RNA, facilitates targeting of nascent secretory and membrane proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum during translation. However, RN7SL523P itself is a truncated and inactive genomic copy, lacking evidence for functional transcription, protein expression, or direct biological/clinical significance. Most 7SL pseudogenes result from reverse transcription events and do not encode active molecules.

Biological functions

Other (pseudogenes rarely encode classic biological functions, but may potentially act as regulators of gene expression through noncoding RNA mechanisms, e.g., miRNA sponging, although this is not described for RN7SL523P specifically)
03

Disease associations

Other (no evidence that RN7SL523P is implicated directly in diseases; some pseudogenes can play regulatory roles in cancer, but RN7SL523P is not specifically cited for such roles)
