Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 556, pseudogene (RN7SL556P) is classified as a pseudogene of the 7SL RNA, which is the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) that plays an essential role in directing newly synthesized proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotic cells[1][3][5][6]. However, RN7SL556P itself is not a protein-coding gene, nor is it known to be functional or expressed as a physiologically relevant molecule; like other 7SL pseudogenes, it is thought to be a truncated, non-functional copy resulting from retrotransposition or duplicative events[1][6]. There is currently no evidence that this pseudogene acts as a therapeutic target, participates directly in biological processes, or is associated with disease, drug interaction, or use as a biomarker. Its primary relevance is as a genomic sequence homologous to the functional 7SL RNA gene, and it is predominantly referenced in genomic annotation and pseudogene catalogs[1][6].
