01

Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 559, pseudogene (RN7SL559P) is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it is a genomic DNA sequence that closely resembles the gene for 7SL RNA (signal recognition particle RNA) but is nonfunctional. Pseudogenes like RN7SL559P do not encode functional RNA or protein products, distinguishing them from canonical therapeutic targets such as receptors, enzymes, or transporters. While the parental 7SL RNA is a crucial noncoding RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), involved in the targeting and translocation of secretory proteins across membranes, RN7SL559P is one of many truncated, noncanonical copies scattered throughout the human genome. No evidence supports a direct biological function or clinical significance for RN7SL559P itself. Some pseudogenes can have regulatory functions, such as acting as miRNA decoys or creating small RNAs involved in epigenetic regulation, but these activities have not been attributed specifically to RN7SL559P. The majority of 7SL RNA pseudogenes are believed to result from reverse transcription and re-integration of 7SL RNA and do not produce functional transcripts.

Biological functions

None reported for RN7SL559P specifically (as a pseudogene, it does not encode a functional product)General pseudogene functions may include acting as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), miRNA "sponges," or sources of small RNAs, but these functions are mostly described for active or transcribed pseudogenes and are not established for RN7SL559P
