Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 578, pseudogene (RN7SL578P) is a human genomic locus classified as a pseudogene of the 7SL RNA family[1][2][4]. 7SL RNA genes normally encode the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) complex, which directs co-translational targeting of proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum; however, as a pseudogene, RN7SL578P is believed to be a non-functional, retrotransposed copy of a 7SL RNA gene and is not known to be expressed or to play a canonical role in SRP-mediated protein targeting[1][4][7]. There are hundreds of 7SL RNA-like pseudogenes in the human genome, resulting from reverse transcription and integration events[7]. Unlike their functional gene counterparts, these pseudogenes typically do not produce functional RNA and are not considered relevant drug or disease targets[4][6][7]. Some pseudogenes in general can act as regulatory RNAs or participate in RNA-mediated silencing, but there is no evidence that RN7SL578P has such activity[1][6].
