RN7SL582P is a processed human pseudogene derived from 7SL RNA, the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP). The SRP is critical for co-translational targeting of nascent proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum[1][3]. RN7SL pseudogenes, including RN7SL582P, arise through genetic reverse flow events and are dispersed throughout the genome. These pseudogenes are truncated and not normally transcribed at functional levels nor do they contribute actively to cellular processes. Their sequences may reflect evolutionary remnants of the SRP pathway, but are not known to participate in any active biological or pathological processes[5]. The canonical 7SL RNA gene itself plays architectural and regulatory roles in SRP assembly, translation arrest, and protein translocation[1], but RN7SL582P does not encode these functions.
