Overview

RN7SL622P is a human pseudogene that represents a non-functional genomic sequence homologous to 7SL RNA, a component of the signal recognition particle (SRP). While functional 7SL RNA is essential for targeting secretory proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum, RN7SL622P does not code for a functional RNA or protein and is not expressed at a detectable level. The human genome contains hundreds of such 7SL pseudogenes, which are thought to arise via retrotransposition or similar processes and serve as molecular fossils. There is no evidence that RN7SL622P plays a direct role in health or disease or that it is targeted by any drugs or clinical biomarkers[5][7][8][9].
