The 7SL RNA is the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), crucial for targeting secretory proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum during translation. In contrast, RN7SL636P is a genomic locus classified as a pseudogene, meaning it is a non-functional copy likely generated by retrotransposition of 7SL RNA and abandoned by the genome for transcriptional or functional activity. Most human 7SL RNA sequences in the genome are pseudogenes and are not known to be transcribed or to participate in known cellular processes. There is no current evidence that RN7SL636P functions as a druggable target, gene expression marker, or disease factor. Pseudogenes in general can occasionally play regulatory roles, but there is no data implicating RN7SL636P in such processes.
