Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 691, pseudogene (RN7SL691P) is a non-protein-coding pseudogene, classified as a processed pseudogene related to the 7SL RNA gene, which forms part of the signal recognition particle (SRP) RNA family[1][4]. The 7SL RNA is essential for protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum in its functional (non-pseudogene) form, but most 7SL pseudogenes, including RN7SL691P, do not produce functional RNA molecules and are generally not transcribed or translated into protein[1][6]. Pseudogenes like RN7SL691P usually have no or very limited biological activity, but some pseudogenes in general may be transcribed and—rarely—act as non-coding competing endogenous RNAs, modulating microRNA availability and potentially affecting expression of related genes[2]. RN7SL691P itself has no evidence supporting a role as a therapeutic target, nor is it associated with any known disease role, biomarker status, or drug interaction[1][4][6]. The gene is located on chromosome 4 (GRCh38: 43,598,544-43,598,844, reverse strand)[4].
