Overview

RN7SL711P is a pseudogene, classified as a nonfunctional DNA segment that closely resembles the sequence of the functional 7SL RNA gene, but typically lacks regulatory elements and/or possesses disabling mutations preventing transcription or biological activity[1][4][6]. The 7SL RNA gene encodes a core RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), a ribonucleoprotein essential for targeting proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum[3][5]. RN7SL711P, along with hundreds of similar loci, represents a truncated or mutated copy of the original 7SL RNA gene, deposited throughout the human genome by retrotransposition or duplication events[6]. These sequences are generally not transcribed or processed in a way that provides any cellular function and are considered evolutionary "junk DNA" or molecular relics[4][6]. RN7SL711P should not be confused with the functional 7SL RNA (RN7SL1), which plays essential roles in ribonucleoprotein assembly, protein targeting, immune regulation, and has emerging roles in cancer and viral infection[3][5]. Unlike RN7SL1, pseudogenes like RN7SL711P are not relevant for drug targeting, diagnosis, or therapy[1][4][5]. If additional information or clarification about the functional 7SL RNA (RN7SL1) is needed, please specify, as only RN7SL1—not RN7SL711P—is relevant for molecular and disease roles[3][5].
