Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 720, pseudogene (RN7SL720P) is a processed pseudogene found on chromosome 9p22 (location: 9:17053901-17054204)[6][1]. It belongs to a large family of 7SL pseudogenes, which result from the insertion of reverse-transcribed copies of the 7SL RNA into the genome[7][8]. Unlike the functional 7SL RNA genes, which are integral components of the signal recognition particle (SRP) system required for cotranslational protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum[3][5], RN7SL720P does not encode a functional RNA or protein and is not expressed under normal physiological conditions[2][7]. These pseudogenes are mostly inert and not considered therapeutic targets, nor are they associated with any particular cellular function, disease, or drug response. Their presence is a testament to evolutionary processes shaping the noncoding genome.

Mechanism of action

None known (pseudogenes are generally nonfunctional and not drug targets)[2]

03

Biological functions

No known biological function (pseudogene, non-coding)Derived from functional 7SL RNA, which is essential in protein targeting via the signal recognition particle (SRP) pathway[3][5]The parent 7SL RNA is involved in protein translocation, translation regulation, and stress response, but the pseudogene does not retain these functions[2][7][8]
04

Disease associations

Other (no direct role for the pseudogene; 7SL RNA family may have indirect associations such as in cancer via cell signaling vesicles, but not attributable to this pseudogene)[5]
