RN7SL840P is a non-coding RNA pseudogene related to the 7SL RNA sequence, which itself is a functional, highly conserved RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) complex[1][6]. The SRP plays a role in directing certain proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum or plasma membrane during translation[3][4]. However, RN7SL840P does not encode a functional product nor participate in canonical SRP activities; like most pseudogenes, it is a nonfunctional segment of DNA that resembles the functional gene but cannot produce the normal gene product due to disablements such as truncations or mutations[2][5]. Pseudogenes such as RN7SL840P are not considered valid therapeutic targets, do not partake in known disease mechanisms, and are not associated with biomarkers or druggable activities[2][5].
