Overview

RN7SL88P (RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 88, pseudogene) is a non-coding RNA pseudogene found in humans, annotated on chromosome 12[2][1][4]. It belongs to a family of pseudogenes derived from the 7SL RNA gene, which is the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP)[7]. Pseudogenes of 7SL RNA, such as RN7SL88P, are considered genomic fossils — they are typically non-functional remnants and do not produce an active RNA product[7]. While 7SL RNA itself has critical cellular functions as part of the SRP complex (which regulates protein targeting and translation in the endoplasmic reticulum), RN7SL88P does not encode an active component and is not known to be involved in disease, biological regulation, or targeted by therapeutic drugs[7][1][4]. There are hundreds of 7SL RNA-like sequences in the human genome, most of which are pseudogenes with no protein product and lacking biological activity[7].
