Overview

RNA, Ro-associated Y1 pseudogene 14 (RNY1P14) is a nonfunctional genomic DNA sequence in humans that resembles the functional RNA, Ro-associated Y1 gene. It is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it does not produce a functional RNA or protein product due to mutations or sequence disablements acquired after its formation[9]. As a member of the Y RNA pseudogene family, it is derived from the Y1 functional gene but is not believed to participate in biological processes or disease, nor is it recognized as a therapeutic target[1][3][5][7][9]. There is no evidence for active transcription, translation, or involvement in cellular pathways, disease, or drug response for RNY1P14. Pseudogenes such as RNY1P14 can complicate molecular studies by sharing sequence similarity with functional genes, sometimes leading to errors in gene amplification assays (PCR bias)[9]. While some Y RNA pseudogenes are transcribed and have speculative roles in tumor biology, there is no specific functional or clinical information on RNY1P14 itself[4][7].
