Overview

RNA, Ro-associated Y5 (RNY5) is a highly conserved small non-coding RNA of the Y RNA class, one of four main human Y RNAs. It forms a ribonucleoprotein complex with the Ro60 and La proteins (collectively known as RoRNP), playing essential roles in the initiation of DNA replication and the quality control and turnover of misfolded or misprocessed RNAs, notably including interactions with the 5S ribosomal RNA and ribosomal protein L5[1][3][4]. RNY5 is abundant in extracellular vesicles, suggesting a possible role in intercellular communication[4]. Its specific sequence motifs and structural elements are critical for its function and stability. RNY5 itself is not a protein or enzyme and is not considered a direct therapeutic target, but it is an important regulatory RNA involved in fundamental cellular processes[2][3][4].
