Overview

RNA, U1 small nuclear 124, pseudogene (RNU1-124P), is classified as a small nuclear RNA (snRNA) pseudogene belonging to the broader RNU1 (U1 snRNA) multigene family[2]. Pseudogenes like RNU1-124P are DNA sequences that resemble functional genes but contain mutations or deletions preventing them from producing fully functional transcripts or proteins[2]. Nevertheless, recent research challenges the notion that all such pseudogenes are entirely nonfunctional: some U1 snRNA pseudogenes are actively transcribed and produce variant snRNAs that are packaged into ribonucleoprotein complexes and may modulate gene expression at the level of mRNA processing[2]. However, there is no evidence that RNU1-124P is a therapeutic target, a protein, a functional enzyme, receptor, transporter, or transcription factor[2]. No drugs are known to interact with RNU1-124P, and it is not used as a biomarker or implicated in any safety or therapeutic concerns.
