Overview

RNU1-132P (RNA, U1 small nuclear 132, pseudogene) is annotated as a pseudogene of the U1 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family. U1 snRNAs are small non-coding RNAs fundamental for the splicing of pre-mRNA by recognizing the 5′ splice site and recruiting the spliceosome complex[1][3][5]. However, as a **pseudogene**, RNU1-132P is not believed to produce a functional RNA product or participate in splicing or any canonical pathway. Pseudogenes often arise via duplication or retrotransposition and lose their ability to code for functional RNA or proteins. There is no evidence that RNU1-132P acts as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any other conventional therapeutic target class. Although mutations and structural variation in canonical U1 snRNA loci have been linked to splicing alterations in cancer[4], no such association has been described for this specific pseudogene.

Biological functions

Other (Pseudogenes generally lack functional biological activity; canonical U1 snRNAs are involved in pre-mRNA splicing, but pseudogenes like RNU1-132P do not encode functional products)
03

Disease associations

Other (No direct disease association known for this pseudogene; U1 snRNA variants and mutations at related loci have been implicated in cancer and other diseases, but there is no evidence for RNU1-132P itself having a disease role[4])
