Overview

RNU1-133P (RNA, U1 small nuclear 133, pseudogene) is a human pseudogene related to the U1 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family, which encodes components of the spliceosome machinery. U1 snRNAs are essential for recognition of 5' splice sites and regulation of pre-mRNA splicing. However, RNU1-133P itself is not transcribed into a functional RNA or protein: it is a “pseudogene,” a DNA segment homologous to the active U1 snRNA genes but lacking promoter activity or containing mutations that prevent functional expression. It does not encode a protein and is not known to act as a signaling receptor, enzyme, transporter, transcription factor, or other functional target. There is no evidence to date that RNU1-133P is implicated in human disease, is used as a biomarker, or is directly druggable. Note: Some pseudogenes from other gene families may act as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) or microRNA sponges and thus have regulatory functions in disease, but there is currently no published evidence for such a role for RNU1-133P specifically.
