RNU1-142P is a genomic sequence annotated as “RNA, U1 small nuclear 142, pseudogene.” Pseudogenes are DNA segments that resemble functional genes but typically harbor mutations, deletions, or insertions rendering them unexpressed or non-functional in protein or functional RNA production[2]. The RNU1-142P sequence is related to the U1 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family, which plays central roles in RNA splicing as part of the spliceosome. There is currently no evidence that RNU1-142P is expressed, or that it has any mechanistic or disease-relevant function, nor is it a target for therapeutics[2][4]. In summary, RNU1-142P is a non-coding RNA pseudogene without established biological, clinical, or therapeutic significance. The entry is best classified as a genomic locus of uncertain functional relevance, and should not be confused with the canonical U1 small nuclear RNA genes (such as RNU1-1), which are functionally essential for pre-mRNA splicing[1].
