Overview

RNU1-23P refers to a predicted pseudogene of the U1 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family. U1 snRNAs are essential components of the spliceosome complex, responsible for the recognition of pre-mRNA 5’ splice sites and accurate pre-mRNA splicing, safeguarding transcriptome integrity by preventing aberrant splicing and polyadenylation. However, as a pseudogene, RNU1-23P is not believed to produce a functional RNA product. The “pseudogene” designation means that it likely arose via duplication or retrotransposition events and has lost its original function, typically through deleterious mutation. There is no robust evidence that RNU1-23P acts as a functional therapeutic target nor that it plays a direct role in disease or drug response. Its sequence may be used in studies exploring U1 snRNA gene family diversity or mutation detection, but it is not classified as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other pharmacologically relevant entity. Additional notes: - All canonical functions, biological significance, and disease involvement described for canonical U1 snRNAs (such as mutational hotspots in cancer genomics) do not directly apply to pseudogenes like RNU1-23P. - No drugs, biomarkers, or therapeutic interventions target this pseudogene. - Its presence in the genome reflects the structural complexity and copy number variation typical of U1 snRNA loci, but functional roles are restricted to its active, non-pseudogene homologs.
