Overview

RNA, U1 small nuclear 34, pseudogene (RNU1-34P) is a pseudogene that belongs to the family of U1 small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs) [2][4]. U1 snRNAs are essential, highly conserved non-coding RNAs that play a central role in pre-mRNA splicing by recognizing the 5’ splice site and forming a component of the spliceosomal U1 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) complex [1][6]. However, as a pseudogene, RNU1-34P is generally considered a non-functional genomic locus that arose from a duplication of a functional U1 snRNA gene but has lost its ability to produce a functional snRNA transcript, due to accumulations of mutations or deletions [4][2]. There is no evidence that RNU1-34P participates in any cellular process, encodes a functional product, or serves as a therapeutic target. Information and gene records exist for RNU1-34P due to its sequence homology and annotation as a U1 snRNA family member, but its designation as a pseudogene means it is not expected to play a direct biological role [4][2][6].
