Target
RNU1-42P
Molecular classification
Non-coding RNA, Pseudogene

Overview

RNA, U1 small nuclear 42, pseudogene (RNU1-42P) is a member of the U1 snRNA pseudogene family, annotated as the 42nd locus. U1 snRNA is a key component of the spliceosome complex essential for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes[2]. Pseudogene family members like RNU1-42P are generally considered non-functional, carrying sequence similarity to true U1 snRNA genes but typically harboring mutations or truncations that prevent canonical U1 snRNP formation or function. Nonetheless, recent evidence shows some “pseudogenes” can be transcribed and processed into RNAs that participate in regulatory processes, such as modulating alternative splicing or acting as competitors for spliceosomal assembly[2]. For RNU1-42P, there is no direct evidence of functional RNA or protein, or of involvement in human disease or pharmacology. It is primarily classified as a non-coding, non-functional pseudogene, though the field of pseudogene research continues to evolve regarding their possible regulatory roles[2][4].

Other names
RNU1-42PRNA, U1 small nuclear 42, pseudogene
02

Mechanism of action

None reported (no direct drug targeting; general literature indicates that some variant U1 snRNA pseudogenes may affect RNA splicing or mRNA 3’ end processing, but RNU1-42P is not directly established in these roles[2])

03

Biological functions

May participate in RNA processing regulation as a variant U1 snRNA pseudogene transcript[2]Not involved in protein-coding or traditional receptor/enzyme function
04

Disease associations

Other (Recent research suggests possible roles for variant U1 snRNA pseudogenes in gene regulation, but no direct disease association for RNU1-42P specifically[2])
