Overview

RNA, U1 small nuclear 78, pseudogene (RNU1-78P), is a genomic locus annotated as a pseudogene related to the U1 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family[1][2]. Unlike functional U1 snRNA genes, which are critical components of spliceosomal ribonucleoprotein complexes involved in pre-mRNA splicing, pseudogenes such as RNU1-78P are typically the result of retrotransposition or duplications and do not produce a functional RNA or protein product. While some U1 snRNA pseudogenes have been shown to be weakly transcribed or associated with ribonucleoprotein particles, RNU1-78P is not documented as having any established biological function, therapeutic relevance, disease association, or known drug interactions[1][2]. It is therefore not considered a valid therapeutic target, and its clinical or functional significance remains unproven. RNU1-78P is representative of a large class of U1 snRNA pseudogenes scattered throughout the genome[2].
