RNA, U2 small nuclear 33, pseudogene (RNU2-33P) is a member of the U2 snRNA pseudogene family. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but nonfunctional; they typically do not encode functional RNA or protein products. The U2 small nuclear RNA family is a critical component of the spliceosome involved in pre-mRNA splicing, but pseudogenes like RNU2-33P are classified as nonfunctional remnants with no known biological activity[1]. There is no evidence that RNU2-33P is transcribed, participates in splicing, or is associated with human disease or therapeutics. It is not considered a therapeutic target, nor does it have any reported function as a biomarker or drug interaction partner. RNU2-33P is a pseudogene, meaning it is not a functional gene product, not a protein, enzyme, or true receptor, nor an established drug or biomarker target. This distinguishes it from functional U2 snRNAs (such as RNU2-1 or the reclassified RNU2-2), which are essential for spliceosome assembly and have emerging disease associations[4][5]. RNU2-33P is essentially a genomic fossil of U2 snRNA, annotated historically due to sequence similarity with the parent gene[1].
