RNA, U2 small nuclear 9, pseudogene (RNU2-9P)

Target
RNU2-9P
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene), Small nuclear RNA (non-coding RNA, snRNA; as family, not specific to this pseudogene)
01

Overview

RNA, U2 small nuclear 9, pseudogene (RNU2-9P) is a pseudogene of the U2 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family. U2 snRNAs are essential, highly conserved, small non-coding RNAs that play a crucial role in the spliceosome complex, mediating pre-mRNA splicing. However, RNU2-9P itself is a non-functional genomic copy (pseudogene) and does not encode a mature, functional RNA product. Pseudogenes like RNU2-9P are generally not transcribed or functional and do not contribute to biological processes or disease directly. They are not considered therapeutic targets, have no known roles in disease, and do not interact with drugs.

03

Biological functions

None assigned (pseudogene)For reference, U2 snRNA (functional gene) participates in pre-mRNA splicing as a core component of the spliceosome, but pseudogenes like RNU2-9P are not believed to be functionally active
04

Disease associations

None known for this pseudogeneFunctional U2 snRNA genes have been associated with neurodevelopmental disorders when mutated, but this does not apply to pseudogenes like RNU2-9P
