It is a non-coding derivative of the U5 snRNA family, which is essential for the splicing of pre-mRNA in eukaryotic cells when functional. The U5 snRNA itself is part of the major spliceosome complex and is involved in the alignment of exons during mRNA maturation, but pseudogenes such as RNU5A-3P are presumed non-functional and lack evidence for involvement in cellular processes or disease[4][2][5][3]. There are no known drugs, biomarkers, or therapeutic strategies targeting RNU5A-3P, and it does not play a role in human disease or serve as a therapeutic target.
