RNU5D-2P is a pseudogene belonging to the U5 class of small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs), part of a highly conserved group of noncoding RNAs that function in the spliceosome complex to mediate pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells. While functional U5 snRNAs are essential components of the major spliceosome, pseudogenes like RNU5D-2P do not encode for functional RNAs or proteins and are generally considered non-functional remnants of gene duplication or retrotransposition events[5]. Most snRNA pseudogenes (including this one) are not transcribed, though recent research indicates some pseudogenes might be transcribed and have potential regulatory roles (such as forming double-stranded RNAs that could be processed into regulatory small interfering RNAs), but this has not been demonstrated for RNU5D-2P specifically[3][5]. No experimental disease link, druggability, or use as biomarker is reported for RNU5D-2P.
