Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 100, pseudogene (RNU6-100P) is a processed pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene. U6 snRNA plays a central role in the spliceosome complex that catalyzes pre-mRNA splicing, but RNU6-100P itself is a non-functional, non-coding pseudogene formed via retrotransposition mechanisms, primarily mediated by LINE-1 (L1) elements[7][1]. It does not produce functional RNA or protein, nor does it act as a traditional molecular target for therapeutic agents. Like other snRNA pseudogenes, RNU6-100P is an inactive genomic sequence and may serve as a marker of retrotranspositional events rather than playing an active regulatory or structural biological role[7][6][2].

Mechanism of action

None

03

Biological functions

None (no known biological function as a pseudogene); the parental gene (U6 snRNA) is involved in pre-mRNA splicing, but pseudogene copies are inactive
04

Disease associations

None (no direct known role in disease); may be markers of retrotransposition activity in genome studies
05

Biomarkers

None specific to RNU6-100P; U6 snRNA pseudogene patterns can be used in research as readouts of retrotransposition activity
