Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 1000, pseudogene (RNU6-1000P) refers to a pseudogene copy of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene. The U6 snRNA is a key component of the spliceosome involved in pre-mRNA splicing, but RNU6-1000P itself is designated as a pseudogene, meaning it is a non-functional genetic element that arises from retrotransposition events and typically does not produce a functional RNA or protein[5][1]. Many U6 pseudogenes are found scattered throughout the human genome as a result of LINE-1 (L1) mediated retrotransposition, and they do not have known biological activity or disease association[1][5]. As a pseudogene, RNU6-1000P is not considered a therapeutic or biomarker target, is not a functional enzyme, receptor, or other protein, and has no known drug interactions or mechanism of action[5]. RNU6-1000P is cataloged by nomenclature committees (e.g., HGNC:47963[5]), but there is very little or no functional data for individual U6 pseudogenes. The literature and databases consistently regard these as noncoding, non-functional loci. If you are seeking biologically significant U6 RNAs, the canonical gene is "RNA, U6 small nuclear 1" (RNU6-1)[4], not the pseudogene variants.
