Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 1005, pseudogene (RNU6-1005P) is a pseudogene derived from the highly conserved U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA), which is a core component of the spliceosome involved in pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes[1][3]. As a pseudogene, RNU6-1005P is not thought to be transcribed into a functional RNA or protein and does not play an active role in cellular processes[1]. U6 snRNA, from which this pseudogene derives, is essential for catalyzing intron removal from pre-mRNA during splicing, but numerous copies exist in vertebrate genomes as both functional genes and pseudogenes due to gene duplication and retrotransposition events[3][4]. RNU6-1005P itself does not have any established therapeutic significance, disease role, associated drugs, or biomarker status[1]. Its presence reflects evolutionary redundancy and the high importance of the spliceosome for eukaryotic gene expression, but RNU6-1005P does not itself encode an active molecule or target[3][4].
