Overview

RNU6-1008P is a **pseudogene** of U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA), identified by its sequence similarity to the authentic U6 snRNA gene but lacking the ability to produce a functional RNA product. U6 snRNA, when functional, is a highly conserved non-coding RNA component essential for the spliceosome—the machinery responsible for removing introns from pre-mRNA during splicing[1][3]. The human genome contains hundreds to thousands of U6-derived pseudogenes like RNU6-1008P, most of which are unexpressed remnants or molecular fossils arising primarily by retrotransposition events mediated by LINE-1 elements[5]. These pseudogenes do not participate in spliceosomal activity, do not produce proteins or regulatory RNAs, and have no known impact on physiological or disease processes[2][5]. Their presence in the genome is often used as an indicator of retrotransposition history but holds no therapeutic, diagnostic, or biomarker relevance[5]. In summary: RNU6-1008P is *not* a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any form of druggable target, but rather a nonfunctional pseudogene derived from the U6 snRNA gene[2][5].
