Overview

U6 small nuclear RNA is a highly conserved, uridine-rich non-coding RNA that is an essential component of the spliceosome, the molecular machinery responsible for pre-mRNA splicing in the nucleus of eukaryotic cells[2][3]. It coordinates magnesium ions and interacts with other snRNAs (U2, U4, U5) and proteins during the splicing process, forming complex secondary structures and undergoing various post-transcriptional modifications. However, RNU6-108P is a specific human pseudogene copy related to U6 snRNA. Pseudogenes are non-functional genetic elements that have lost their gene expression capability and do not produce functional RNA or protein. Numerous U6-derived pseudogenes are present in the human genome, produced through retrotranspositional events and serving primarily as genomic "fossils"[3][4]. While some researchers use the distribution of these pseudogenes to trace the activity of LINE-1 (L1) retrotransposons in the genome, RNU6-108P itself does not encode a functional molecule nor does it serve as a known biomedical target[1][4]. If you seek structured data for therapeutic target annotation, RNU6-108P is not an active receptor, enzyme, transporter, or related target and "is_target" should be set to false.
