Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 1084, pseudogene (RNU6-1084P) is a pseudogene that originates from the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family. U6 snRNA itself is an essential component of the spliceosome, involved in catalyzing pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells. However, RNU6-1084P, like many U6-derived pseudogenes, does not produce a functional RNA or protein and is considered a genomic relic. These pseudogenes are formed via retrotransposition or gene duplication events and reflect the evolutionary history of the genome but are not involved in canonical biological or disease processes. U6 snRNA is crucial for RNA splicing as part of the spliceosome, but its pseudogenes (such as RNU6-1084P) have lost coding potential or function and do not contribute to splicing or other cellular mechanisms. The proliferation of U6 snRNA pseudogenes in the genome is attributed mostly to retrotransposition mechanisms, and they are frequently used as markers of genomic retrotransposition activity. Functional small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs) play dynamic roles in RNA processing, but pseudogenes like RNU6-1084P are not classified as gene targets in therapeutics, diagnostics, or biological function studies.
