RNA, U6 small nuclear 1086, pseudogene (RNU6-1086P) is a processed pseudogene related to the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) family. U6 snRNA is a highly conserved, non-coding RNA essential for the catalytic activity of the spliceosome, participating directly in splicing of precursor mRNA via the excision of introns in the nucleus[1][3]. However, RNU6-1086P itself is a pseudogene, meaning it is a genomic DNA sequence derived from an ancestral U6 snRNA gene but is no longer functional as an snRNA; it is generally not transcribed or does not produce a functional RNA product[2][4][5]. These pseudogenes are formed mainly by retrotransposition events, especially through L1-mediated reverse transcription, and serve as evolutionary markers rather than biologically active molecules[2]. Pseudogenes in the U6 snRNA family do not have known direct biological or disease roles, and are not considered therapeutic targets nor do they interact with drugs. Their presence reflects genome evolution and retrotransposition dynamics in mammals[2][4].
