RNA, U6 small nuclear 1118, pseudogene (RNU6-1118P) is a non-protein-coding RNA classified as a processed pseudogene and derived from the highly conserved U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family[1][6]. U6 snRNA is a core component of the spliceosome, essential for pre-mRNA splicing[3][5]. However, pseudogenes such as RNU6-1118P do not produce functional RNA or proteins due to accumulated mutations or lack of regulatory elements[4][6]. The human genome contains many U6-related pseudogenes, the vast majority of which are products of L1 (LINE-1) retrotransposon-mediated reverse transcription[6]. While some pseudogene transcripts may occasionally play regulatory roles, there is no evidence that RNU6-1118P has any such function, nor is it associated with any known phenotype or pathology[1]. This locus is best regarded as a nonfunctional genomic copy and not a therapeutic target.
