Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 1155, pseudogene (RNU6-1155P) is a non-coding pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family. The functional U6 snRNA is one of the most highly conserved RNA components of the spliceosome, a complex responsible for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells[1][3]. Pseudogenes like RNU6-1155P have accumulated mutations that render them non-functional copies or fragments of their parental gene, and are common in the human genome[5][6][7]. While U6 snRNA plays a central catalytic role in the spliceosome, RNU6-1155P itself does not encode a mature or functional RNA molecule and is not known to impact cellular processes directly. There are no reports of RNU6-1155P having a regulatory, protein-coding, or pathological role[2][7]. Most U6 snRNA pseudogenes are considered non-functional; however, pseudogenes in general can sometimes regulate gene expression by acting as decoys, sponges for miRNAs, or through other RNA-mediated effects, but there is no specific evidence for such a function for RNU6-1155P. No direct or disease-associated functional role reported for RNU6-1155P. As a pseudogene, RNU6-1155P is not an active biological target and does not present therapeutic safety concerns.
